Fair Oak Cricket Club is a successful and dynamic ECB ClubMark accredited club situated on the outskirts of Eastleigh in Hampshire. Founded as a village side in 1947, it played friendly and league cricket on pitches hired from and maintained by the Borough Council. However, the club has undergone a dramatic transformation in recent years. In 1998 we moved into our new home, Lapstone Park, in Fair Oak, where, thanks to a supportive Parish Council and a dedicated team of club officials and helpers, we have exclusive use of a modern facility which is the envy of many of our visitors.
As a developing and ambitious club, we run four senior teams: one in the Southern Premier League, and three in the Hampshire Cricket League on Saturdays; an Evening League side, a Sunday side, six junior sides from Under 9 to Under 16 and a girls U11 and U16 side. The list of recent honours for the Club is extensive. Our 1st XI has been promoted five times in recent seasons, and now play in Premier League Division 3, our 2nd XI plays HCL County Division 4 (South), and our 3rd and 4th XI's play in Regional Division 3.
Our Junior Section is a much admired, successful academy of developing cricketers. There is a team of over twenty qualified Coaches led by ECB Staff Coach Tony Oxley, who along with the team Managers enable over 100 youngsters to develop their skills in a secure and challenging way, encouraging every individual to reach their cricketing potential. In recent seasons the club has produced fourteen County players and over fifty representatives at District and City level. Weekly training and coaching sessions are held throughout the spring, summer and winter and are very well attended. All of our senior sides include talented young cricketers from our youth squads, who play key roles in the teams.
We have very close links with the community: the nearby Wyvern Technology College use our facilities for some school matches, with many of their students benefiting from our coaching expertise. We are the focus club for Cricket for the Disabled – our disabled section practice and play frequently, and our facilities are also used by the County junior squads and the County women’s cricket squads.
In 2004 we found a new home for our 3rd & 4th XIs who now have exclusive use of nearby Botley Recreation Ground for their home games, and an increasing amount of our junior cricket is being played there too, bringing much needed sport to the young people of the village.
Beginning in 2008 we are starting a new partnership with The Lapstone, our local community pub where we meet after all our games and where regular social events and gatherings are held. We hope our association with Keith & Karen will be a long and happy one.
